Who I am

Katharina

My name is Katharina

Because planning a gap year across the world is one of the most daunting tasks that you may have to encounter, we decided to put together this website to help you plan your whole trip with ease. I have been mandated by Working Holiday Starter to create what we think is the best portal to start organising your work and travel experience in New Zealand.

It’s an understatement to say that your working holiday in New Zealand will be an amazing trip. The experiences that you will gain while backpacking through New Zealand will be more valuable than you would have ever expected. Improving your English is only the beginning. You will meet people from all around the world and travel with them. You will do jobs that you would have never tried anywhere else, activities crazier than thought possible, and live on your own for the first time. Simply put, you will become an adult!

Now, I am not a big fan of long speeches and I like to keep my texts short. I made this website to help as many people as possible to organise their working holiday in New Zealand, with a very simple step-by-step along with all the resources that I used for this trip. I also made a short and straight-to-the-point New Zealand location guide, as most of the ones I read were long as...

Enjoy my website and enjoy New Zealand!

Steps to plan your working holiday in new zealand easily!
Landscape

Choose New Zealand!

“Simply the biggest playground on earth” would be the best way to describe New Zealand.

Get a Working Holiday Visa

Let’s start with the most obvious question of all: do you need a visa for New Zealand and if so, do you need a working holiday visa?

Book your flight

Until you purchase your plane ticket and have a definite departure date, it will not really “hit you” that you are about to embark on a journey to the other side of the world.

Get a Starter Pack

Because there is nothing more stressful than starting from scratch, I decided to go with a company to help me get started.

Get medical and travel insurance

I mean who would like to be stranded in a foreign country with a health problem or luggage stolen and no one to turn to for help?

Tie up loose ends

Believe it or not, you have a lot of contracts and other links to home that you will have to work on before leaving for New Zealand.

Pack your bag(s)

Finally, it’s about time to leave! Last thing to do beside stuffing yourself of your favourite home made food or local specialty, packing your bag.

Working holiday visa

Working Holiday Visa

To me no other country came close to New Zealand for my gap year as it is so easy to travel and I really wanted to explore a country in depth.

Hiking boots

Hiking boots

Investing in insanely good hiking boots is a must before visiting Middle Earth. Make sure that they are as sturdy and comfortable as possible or you will regret it.

Coffee

Coffee

From interviews to dates, everything happens in coffee shops in New Zealand. You'll find one on every street corner.

Jandals

Jandals

The kiwi word for “flip flops” is “jandals”. I ruined a couple of pairs during my trip here as summer are very hot and “forced” me to spend extensive time at the beach.

I have made them a whole step of my 7 steps guide. That should tell you how much they helped!
