Rere Rockslide Sunrise Stingray feeding
Free! Free! $45

Gisborne is New Zealand's most eastern city, which also means it's the first city in the world to see the sunrise! I made sure I woke up early enough to watch the sunrise from the beach (and shamelessly Instagram the moment). There are a few must-do activities nearby, which I fully recommend if you can get a car. I went with some fellow hostel-dwellers to feed the stingrays at Tatapouri Bay, about 15 minutes away from Gisborne. We also went further afield to Rere, which has an awesome waterfall, champagne pools and, best of all, the Rere Rockslide. Get a cheap air bed or body board from Warehouse (there's one in Gisborne) and fly down this natural water slide.
